Canada has Issued over 20,000 Invitations through the Express Entry program in the First Quarter of 2019

Through the Express Entry Program, Canada has issued 21,200 ITAs (Invitation to Apply) in the first quarter of 2019. The first quarter of 2018 ended with 17,500 invitations issued. Hence, the recent draws represent an increase of 3,700 from the first quarter of 2018. Since 2018 is the year in which highest number of invitations were ever issued, 2019 could break that mark.

Further, the first quarter of 2019 also brought down the CRS score threshold to as low as 438. The trend of declining CRS score requirement and increasing ITAs issued will continue due to Canada’s ambitious immigration targets.

Express Entry First Quarter of 2019 Draws

After providing a CRS (Comprehensive Ranking System) score to each profile in the express entry pool, candidates are ranked accordingly. Candidates who clear the CRS score threshold receive an ITA.

In order to reach the target for the year 2019, Canada must stay on the same immigration levels for the remaining 3 quarters. Despite more ambitious immigration targets than the year 2017, the ITAs provided in the first quarter of 2019 are less than those provided in the year 2017.

The CRS score requirement has fluctuated more in the year 2019. The minimum CRS score is also less for the year 2019, however as immigration to US decreases the applications received by Canada will likely increase. This can lead to an increase in the CRS score requirement in the upcoming express entry draws.

Canadian Provinces have actively selected and nominated many applicants from the express entry pool. Profiles present in the express entry pool are automatically processed by each province. Through a provincial nomination, a candidate can get additional 600 CRS points. This ensures that the candidate will be provided with an ITA. You can also apply to separate PNPs on the basis of your profile.

Canada’s Immigration Targets 2019-2021

Canada is going to invite more immigrants to fill in the gap created by low fertility rate and ageing population. The country will use economic immigration, family nomination and refugee program to boost its population growth. Canada has also invited many project proposals from private firms in order to help high skilled immigration to settle down and establish a good life in the country.

The 2019-2021 immigration plan will bring in more than a million immigrants into Canada. Targets have been set for each year as follows:
● 2019 - 330,800
● 2020 - 341,000
● 2021 - 350,000

Each year, the immigration targets will increase in order to accomodate more migrants.

Canada Immigration Report

In the latest immigration report, it is reported that Canada admitted 286,479 permanent residents in the year 2017. Of these, 159,262 permanent residents were admitted through the economic class programs. The economic class programs include:

● Federal Skilled Program
● Caregivers program
● Federal Business Program
● Provincial Nominee Program
● Atlantic Immigration Pilot
● Quebec Skilled Workers Program
● Quebec Business Immigration Program

Permanent Residents Admitted to Canada

In light of new immigration targets, the number of migrants admitted through the economic class programs is likely to increase. Further, many companies are hiring in Canada because of US’s strict stance against immigration. As more companies move into Canada, the demand for both high and low skilled immigrants will rise.

Immigrate to Canada as a Skilled Immigration

Skilled immigration will always remain above and beyond the scope of the immigration debate. Even when immigration hardliners criticize humanitarian aid, they talk about the benefits of skilled immigration. However, Canada seems to be benefiting from both. Canada’s reliance on immigration is increasing each day because of low fertility rate in the country.

In recent years, Canada’s politics and economy have largely been shaped by immigration. Many companies are hiring in Canada because of its lenient immigration norms. In a report by Envoy Global, it was concluded that 65 percent of US employers consider Canada’s immigration policies to be more favourable. 38 percent of employers are considering expanding their business to Canada and 21 percent have already opened up an office in Canada.

Express Entry Canada

Canada’s flagship immigration program is known as Express Entry. Like the name states, the program was brought into action in 2015 to expedite the immigration process. Not only does express entry streamline skilled immigration, but also simplifies the immigration process. Express entry is a consolidation of 3 other skilled immigration programs namely:

● Federal Skilled Worker Program
● Federal Skilled Trades Program
● Canadian Experience Class

Candidates need to create an online profile and enter all the required information. CRS (Comprehensive Ranking System) score is calculated for each candidate on the basis of following parameters:

● Age of the Candidate
● Educational Qualification
● Health and Character Certificate
● English and French Language Proficiency
● Skilles, Work Experience and Area of Specialization
● Profile of Accompanying Dependents

Provincial Nominee Program

There are two ways in which you can apply to the PNPs (Provincial Nominee Program) for skilled immigration. Both these ways are mentioned below:

● Apply through Express Entry
● Apply Separately to a Provincial Immigration Stream

To apply through express entry, you don’t have to do anything apart from submitting your profile online. On the other hand, if you feel your profile is suited for a particular provincial stream, then you should apply separately. Each province has multiple immigration streams that you can select from.

You can apply for immigration to the following provinces in Canada:

● Alberta
● British Columbia
● Manitoba
● New Brunswick
● Newfoundland and Labrador
● Northwest Territories
● Nova Scotia
● Ontario
● Prince Edward Island
● Saskatchewan
● Yukon

Quebec does not have a provincial nominee program. However, Quebec does have its own immigration programs. Some of its immigration programs are mentioned below:

● Quebec Skilled Worker Program
● Quebec Experience Program
● Quebec Immigrant Investor Program
● Quebec Entrepreneur Program
● Quebec Self-Employed Program

Global Talent Stream

Global Talent Stream is a new pilot program whose success has forced the Canadian government to plan to make it permanent. Through this stream, companies can nominate high-skilled workers and get their work permit approved within 2 weeks. The highly expedited nature of this immigration stream ensures that Canada based companies have immediate access to best talents in the world.

There are two categories for the Global Talent Stream namely:

● Category A
● Category B

Requirements for both the categories differ substantially. Also, for Category A, your company must get referral from a designated partner. A designated partner is an organization that will deem your company legitimate to hire highly-skilled workers through this immigration stream.

Quebec Skilled Worker Program

Skilled immigrants who want to live and work inside the province of Quebec can apply through this program. Quebec manages its immigration programs independently and favours french speakers over english speakers. Candidates need to submit an Expression of Interest with the province’s immigration department.

Like the Express Entry program, QSWP is also a merit based immigration system. Hence, candidates will be awarded points, and the ones with the highest points will receive an invitation to apply for permanent residency.

Australia Visitor and Spouse Visa

Australia isn’t just a great travel destination, but also a country where you can enjoy a lavish lifestyle. With great universities, laws that protect freedom and private ownership of property, it becomes a country where you can enjoy a great life with your partner. In this article, we have mentioned the requirements for both visitor visa and partner visa.

Australia Spouse Visa

If you are a common law partner of an Australian permanent resident, Australian citizen or New Zealand citizen, then you can apply for the Australian spouse visa. The person who will nominate you for this visa should either be married to you or be in a defacto relationship with you for at least an year. The nomination is for 2 years, after which you need to get a visa extension or apply for permanent residency.

Note: Same sex partners are also eligible to apply for this visa.

Requirements for Australia Spouse Visa

There are multiple requirements that you need to fulfill to be eligible for Australian spouse visa. These requirements are mentioned below:
● The relationship should be genuine and should continue while the visa application is processed.

● If the relationship isn’t legal marriage, then the defacto relationship must have continued for the past 12 months at least.
● Have a health and character certificate.
● Both you and your partner must be 18 or above in age.

Partner visa provides a two step process to permanent residency. Firstly, you must live on a temporary partner visa for 2 years in Australia. After this, you can apply for permanent partner visa, which will grant you the permanent resident status. This 2 year waiting period is waived, only if at the time of filing the visa application:

● Your de facto relationship or marriage with your partner has lasted for at least 5 years.
● Your de facto relationship or marriage with your partner has lasted for at least 2 years and you have children.

On a temporary partner visa, you can:

● Travel to and from Australia
● Live and Work in Australia

The combined cost for both temporary and permanent Partner visa is AUD 7,160. You have to make the payment for both visa categories at the same time. The temporary partner visa is processed within 21-28 months, while the permanent one is processed within 19-24 months. After a few years of receiving your permanent partner visa, you will be eligible to apply for an Australian Citizenship.

Australia Visitor Visa

Tourist stream visa enables you to travel, study or train for 3 months in Australia. You can’t get medical treatment, work or start a new business while holding this visa. This visa may be required, if you’re cruising inside Australian territory. If you want to leave and re-enter Australia multiple times, then mention that on your visa application or apply for Visitor Visa Frequent traveller stream.

Requirements for Australian Visitor Visa

● You must be in good health. Proved through Health Certificate issued by authorized medical practitioners.
● You must not have a criminal record. Proved through Character certificate issued by police stations.
● Your must visit Australia with the intention to leave upon the expiry of your visa.
● You must have sufficient funds to support yourself and your family while in Australia.

The cost of Visitor visa (subclass 600) is AUD 130. This is the base charge of the application. Additional charges may be applied for both the medical examination and the police check.

You can also apply to the Frequent Traveller Stream, that enables you to re-enter Australia multiple times while the visa is valid. On this visa, you can also take part in business activities. This visa is valid for up to 10 years but you need to leave Australia after 3 months after the date of last entry.

Immigration to Tackle Economic Stagnation in 2019

In recent years, the world has shifted rightwards. This translated into stringent immigration policies that have an adverse impact on world economy. However, there are a few countries like Australia and Canada which have increased their immigration targets to fuel economic expansion.

In 2019, applicants must be more careful in selecting countries and visa streams if they want to immigrate easily. Here are a few major issues faced by developed countries and how they can solve it via immigration.

Major Economic Issues for Developed Countries

There are many issues that have lead to economic stagnation for many developed countries. Below we have mentioned the two problems which have further aggravated this issues.

Ageing Problem and Declining Population

Japan, which is known to avoid immigration at all costs, is suffering from economic stagnation. Once world leaders in innovation, Japanese companies are quickly falling behind because of a declining population. The same problem is replicated in countries like Canada and Australia.

With a declining workforce, the public debt and spending is exploding at a rapid pace. However, Canada is tackling this problem in a unique way. Canada’s Express Entry Program makes it easier for applicants to apply for immigration. The following stats corroborate the efficacy of this program:

● International migration constituted 80 percent of population growth (2017 - 2018)
● 130 percent increase in Citizenship Applications (October 2017 - June 2018)
● 65,417 immigrants admitted through Express Entry Program

Countries can rely on immigration to fuel their economic expansion. With the falling fertility rate in developed countries, reliance in immigration is likely to increase.

Exodus from Rural Regions

Another factor to consider is the concentration of immigrants in urban cities. For instance, in Australia most immigrants move to either Sydney or Melbourne. This creates a surplus in some regions while the other regions witness a population decline. To counter the same, Australia has invested $19 million to fast track the processing of regional visas.

Australia can also be a prototype for shifting population from one region to another. Mobility of residents and immigrants to major urban areas only takes place because of the lack of jobs in the other places. Hence, to reduce the burden from Sydney and Melbourne, South Australia Government along with the Federal Government of Australia are investing $551 million to boost the economic expansion of Adelaide.

Conclusion

The righward political shift comes with growing hatred towards the immigrant communities. Politicians are using hateful rhetoric in order to gain power. However, many studies have concluded that immigration improves the economic growth of a country. As more immigrants enter the labor force, the total productivity of the economy increases.

Immigration Services and Visa Consultants in India

Immigration has gained a important role in India, as more millennials are vying new opportunities to earn more and live a better life. Further, the highly competitive environment in India has largely lead to a decline in India’s position in the happiness index. While the GDP per capita is increasing, the overall happiness of people has declined substantially.

India a Great Source of Immigrants

Indian diaspora far outnumbers the diaspora of any other country. For countries including Australia and Canada, India provides the highest number of immigrants. This becomes important because Indian education system provides professional education at a very nominal price. The subsidised education system ensures that Indians have the required knowledge to work in a competitive environment.

Immigrating to Canada

Immigrating to Canada as a permanent resident is easier than immigrating to any other country. Canada’s population is declining at a rapid rate and the aged population is increasing. Hence, there is going to a an immense financial pressure on the government to provide pension to retired citizens. Therefore, Canada is meeting the need of the hour through immigration.

The Express Entry program, launched in 2015 has brought in over a million immigrants into Canada. Apart from this, the program simplifies the entire immigration process which facilitates immigration.

Express Entry was created by joining the following immigration programs together:

● Federal Skilled Worker Program
● Federal Skilled Trades Program
● Canadian Experience Class

Prior to the introduction of this program, candidates had to research and apply to each of the aforementioned programs. This complex process kept many applicants at bay. However, after the introduction of this program, the number of immigration applications have risen sharply. Further, Express Entry is a merit based immigration program and is way better at vetting candidates who can economically benefit Canada.

The application process is quite simple and summarized below:

1. Create a Profile on Express Entry website
2. Wait for the Profile to be assessed. You’ll be provided a CRS score on basis of the assessment
3. If you clear the CRS threshold, then you’ll receive an Invitation to Apply
4. Apply for a permanent resident status within 30 days of receiving your ITA.

Canada has also devised a new plan and invested heavily into helping newly arrived skilled immigrants in finding jobs and settling down easily. Further, you can expect help from the government in finding affordable housing. You can also take you dependents along with you. In fact, the skills of your dependents can provide you additional points in the Express Entry program.

Provincial Nominee Program

The provincial nominee program works both in conjunction with the Express Entry program and without it as well. Getting nominated by a province can provide you with 600 additional points and hence ensure the approval of your PR application. However, there are limited nomination provided each year, hence make sure to apply at the earliest.

Changes to Australia Immigration System in 2019

In 2019, changes to Australia visa programs signify the shift of focus towards regional and family immigration. While some of the changes are already in affect, others have only been announced. Like always, immigration authorities in Australia are dedicated towards providing immigrants with more opportunities to live a healthier and holistic life.

Here are the top changes to Australia Immigration System in 2019:

Designated Area Migration Agreements (DAMA)

Australia made an announcement for low skilled work visa that enables workers with lower educational qualification to get into the country. The primary focus of this visa will be to bring in workers for industries like agriculture, farming and hospitality. Further, it will boost the workforce of regional Australia which has witnessed a population decline in the recent years.

The low skilled work visa will be a regional sponsored visa. Therefore, the immigrant would be required to live and work in the sponsoring region for at least 3 years. Prior to this, immigrants with a regional sponsored visa had to live and work in the region for at least 5 years. The time was curtailed to provide more flexibility to both regions and immigrants.

Miguel Seibert, a migration agent in Darwin says, “this is a very good thing, in particular in light of the recent immigration law reforms which increased the requirements for most employer-sponsored visas and general skilled migration, such as higher qualifications, more work experience, and higher English language skills.”

This is indeed true, as the requirements for a regional low skilled visa won’t be as demanding as for high skilled visas. Immigrants can choose from 117 low skilled occupations for a DAMA visa. After 3 years of stay in the sponsoring region, the immigrant will be eligible to apply for an Australian Permanent Residency Visa.

Sponsored Parent (Temporary) Visa

Australia has announced the launch of the new sponsored parent (temporary) visa. The sponsorship applications for the same can be submitted from April 17, 2019. Via this visa, immigrants and permanent residents of Australia will be able to sponsor their parents for a temporary visa. The two step method for the Sponsored Parent (Temporary) visa includes:

1. Get the sponsorship approved
2. Get the application for Sponsored Parent (Temporary) visa approved

Key details for the sponsorship program are mentioned below:

Cost of Visa
3 year: $5,000
5 year: $10,000
10 year: $20,000

Extension of 5 years can be sought by submitting extra fee
Around 15,000 applications will be approved each year
Sponsors are required to pay for the private healthcare of their parents
Sponsor must be one of:
Australian Citizen
Australian permanent residency
New Zealand Citizen

Unlike the Parent Visa (Subclass 103,) this visa won’t enable the visa holder to apply for permanent residency. Also, after 10 years of stay in Australia, the immigrant won’t be allowed to apply for a visa extension.

While announcing the launch of this new visa, David Coleman, Minister of Immigration, Citizenship and Multicultural Affairs said, “Up to 15,000 Sponsored Parent (Temporary) visas may be granted each year, ensuring reunions are possible for many families. This will make a big difference to many Australian families.”

Faster Processing of Regional Visas

Australia is all set to invest AUD 19.4 million to fast track the processing of regional visa applications. This investment will erase the backlog and provide enough resources to process the new applications at a faster rate. This move is aimed to reduce the negative impact of population shift from regional Australia to urban cities. The shift has resulted in unavailability of key professions like Doctors and Engineers in regional Australia.

According to Josh Frydenberg, Treasurer, "Two-thirds of new immigrants are going to our capital cities, in particular Sydney, Melbourne and in southeast Queensland...This is creating pressures on infrastructure, not only on our roads but also on our public transport, creating pressures on health, on education and other essential services."

As a solution, he recommends, "To send people where the jobs are and we need to cooperate across state and territories."

Till now, these are the major changes to Australia immigration in 2019. For information on any recent changes, you can visit our blogs.

Immigrating to Quebec as a Skilled Worker

Among immigrants, the popularity of a territory depends entirely on the kind of lifestyle it can provide to its residents. Immigrants are always on the lookout for a territory that provides them employment opportunities, protection under the law and freedom of religion. Quebec embodies all these qualities and more. For starters, it is a multicultural society which takes in around 45,000 immigrants on average from 100 different countries.

As a democratic and secular society, Quebec protects each citizens’ right to freedom of expression and freedom to practice religion. The French culture, etiquettes, art and literature are an integral part of Quebec’s culture. While the majority of residents of Quebec speak French as their primary language, you can still find a fair number of people with great proficiency in English.

Below is a graph depicting the immigration level in Quebec for period 2000-2018:

Quebec has copied the express entry system for immigration. This translates to a better and more flexible immigration system for the applicants. However, the requirements for Quebec Skilled Worker program differ from the ones required by the Express Entry program.

Economic Immigrant

An economic immigrant can immigrate to Quebec through different streams including:

● Skilled Worker
● Entrepreneur
● Investor
● Self-Employed Worker

Economic immigrants have a higher quota, hence applying through this stream is likely to yield better results. For economic immigrants, Quebec has the following programs:

Quebec Skilled Worker (QSW) Program

More importantly than job offer and employment history, this skilled immigration program focuses on the education and language proficiency of the individual. Also, younger applicants are favoured over the older ones. Securing a job offer from a Quebec based employer won’t provide you much leverage over the other applicants.

Programme de l’expérience québécoise (PEQ Québec)

Candidates who have prior work experience in Quebec or have obtained a degree from a certified institution can apply for immigration through this program.

Quebec Investor and Entrepreneur Program

As the name of the programs state, they are meant specially for investors and entrepreneurs. As a result, the financial requirements for these immigration programs are substantially higher. However, the two programs differ as the investor must only invest in a Quebec based business, but an entrepreneur must be involved in the day to day managing activities of the business as well.

Quebec Self Employer Program

Professionals with great skills in certain professions that enable them to be self employed can apply for immigration through this program.

Quebec Skilled Worker Program

Before applying for the QSWP, applicants need to declare an Expression of Interest for the immigration program. This system was launched in 2018 to fast track the immigration system. For this, applicants need to create a profile on Quebec’s immigration website. Once this profile is processed, you will be able to view the approval status of the Expression of Interest.

To create your immigration profile and submit an expression of interest, go to the following link.

Here is the process for the same:

1 Create an account on the Arrima Portal
2 Enter required information and attach supporting documents
3 If Expression of Interest is approved, then apply for PR through the Mon Projet Quebec portal

All updates will be provided through the Mon Projet Quebec portal. Further, there are no limitations on the number of times you can edit your immigration application.

Eligibility Criteria for Quebec Skilled Worker Program includes:

● Education
● Work Experience
● Age
● Language Proficiency in English and French
● Dependents’ profile
● Financial Stability
● Current Occupation

Points are alloted on the basis of these parameters. You must score at least 50 points to get your application approved. Once the application is approved, you will receive a Quebec Selection Certificate (CSQ.) You need to submit this CSQ to the Government of Canada via their online portal. Once this is done, a criminal and medical background check will be undertaken at the behest of IRCC (Immigration, Refugee and Citizenship Canada.)

Top 3 Countries to Immigrate to in 2019

Every person has the right to “ the pursuit of happiness.” However, the pursuit of a good life requires tremendous amounts of efforts which start well before applying for immigration. As someone who wants to take charge of their future, you must research extensively before selecting a particular country. In this article we have provided information about the top 3 destinations for immigrants in 2019.

Canada

Population: 36.7 million
GDP per Capita(PPP): $48,390
Unemployment Rate: 5.6 percent

Canada is a benevolent paradise lost behind the glamour of the United States. While many people are caught in the lengthy immigration process of the US, savvy immigrants are opting for Canada. With great healthcare and social welfare programs, the Great White North has become the best country in the world for immigrants. In fact, 16 percent of US citizens now want to move to Canada.

Another major factor that you must look towards is the ratio of immigrants to natural born citizens. In Canada, immigration has become the primary driver of population growth. The higher concentration of immigrants implies that it will be easier for an immigrant to assimilate into the Canadian society.

How to Immigrate to Canada?

Canada’s immigration programs are remarkably easy and aim to facilitate applicants. When applying for immigration, you have the following choices:

Express Entry Program
    ○ Federal Skilled Program
    ○ Federal Trades Program
    ○ Canadian Experience Class
Provincial Nominee Program
Family Nomination
International Student
Entrepreneur Stream

Canada’s government has announced an ambitious plan of bringing in 350,000 immigration by 2021. To make the best of this opportunity, apply ASAP for immigration to Canada.

Australia

Population: 24.6 million
GDP per Capita (PPP): $50,391
Unemployment Rate: 5.4 percent

People often love comparing Australia to the United States. The primary reason behind this is the lack of poverty in Australia. Through various economic measures, Australia developed an egalitarian society which has been an envy of many. The reduced gun violence is the primary point of comparison between the two countries.

In fact, Richard Flanagan puts it best when he writes, “When Australians visit the U.S. they see a country in decline. Australians see the bad airports, the infrastructure, the poor, the beggars. America had a hold on the population’s imagination 30 years ago that it doesn’t have anymore.”

Apart from this, Australia’s economic success speaks for itself. With less business regulations and more financial freedom, the country down under has perfected its economic policies to become a catalyst for growth. In the 2019 Index of Economic Freedom, Australia received a score of 80.9, hence making it the fifth freest economy in the world.

How to immigrate to Australia?

Australia has multiple provisional and permanent visas. A provisional visa is temporary and the holder of such a visa will have to apply for an extension after particular period of time. These provisional visas enable the visa holder to apply to a permanent visa in the future. Holders of a permanent visa are eligible to apply for citizenship after living in Australia for a few years.

Here are a few visas that you can apply for to migrate to Australia:

● Skilled Independent Visa (subclass 189)
● Skilled - Nominated (subclass 190) Visa
● Graduate Temporary (Subclass 485) Visa
● Skilled - Nominated or Sponsored Provisional (Subclass 489) Visa
● Skilled Regional (Subclass 887) Visa

United States

Population: 325.7 million
GDP per Capita (PPP): $59,792
Unemployment Rate: 4.0 percent

Whatever you may say or think about the US, the land of the free has a certain appeal to the immigrants. Despite difficulties and long waiting periods, immigrants can’t help but apply for a United States visa. Over the years, the US has excelled marvelously in science, arts and business. Hence its employment generation has been unmatched by any other country in the world.

Apart from economics and education, the US has worked intensively on improving quality of life for its citizens. Timely and correct investment in infrastructure has indeed worked its wonders.

However, in recent times the immigration laws has become more stringent. The approval for H1B visa application has dropped substantially. Further, the Trump government is planning to shut down the H4 visas.

How to Immigrate to US?

Particular visas that you can apply to to immigrate to US include:

● H1B Visa
● O-1 Visa
● EB-5 Investor Visa
● F-1 Student Visa

The Hypercompetitive World

Almost all countries are shifting towards a favorable viewpoint towards immigrants. Despite falling population levels, developed countries are believing misleading news and creating a ruckus around immigration. This has been a growing trend due to which the number of visas allocated each year have been curtailed.

With the exception of Australia and Canada, all other countries are stamping down on immigration.  United States is already decreasing the number of immigrants it takes in each year. Canada, on the other hand, is facilitating applicants by simplifying the immigration process. The proof of this is Canada’s express entry program, one of the best immigration programs in the world.

Case for Immigration

Immigration has proven time and again to improve a country’s economy as well as culture. For instance, 43% of Fortune 500 firms were founded by first or second generation immigrants. Some of these companies include Tesla, Apple, Disney, Ford, etc. According to many studies, Immigrants are more likely to start businesses and contribute to the economy than natives. Further, the following benefits hold true as well:

1.Immigrants make the society multicultural
2.Immigrants connect the world
3.Immigrants counter the negative impact of aging population

In recent years, aging population has become the primary problem for all developed countries. Major impact of this is visible in Canada, Japan, UK and so on. These countries are finding it difficult to pay for the retirements of the aged population because the workforce doesn’t have enough young people.

Canada Doubles Application Period for Post-Graduation Work Permit and Removes the Requirement for a Study Permit

Canada has extended the number of days available to postgraduate students to apply for a work permit. Under the Post-Graduate Work Permit(PGWP) program, recent graduates will now have 180 instead of 90 days to apply for a work permit. This extension will enable these students to find work as well as improve their immigration profile while living in Canada.

Further, students applying for a PGWP do not require a valid study permit. However, they must have had a valid study permit in the period of 180 days prior to the day they apply for the PGWP. Students regularly complained about the stress caused because of the renewal process of study permit. Hence removing the requirement of this permit will provide them with adequate time to apply for a PGWP.

According to David Cohen, a senior partner at Campbell Cohen Canadian Immigration Law Firm, “This is huge news for international graduates who are applying for a Post-Graduation Work Permit.” He further added, “Doubling the amount of time they have to apply and allowing them to do so beyond the expiration date on their study visa will make a world of a difference for students who want to stay and gain valuable Canadian work experience.”

Post Graduate Work Permit
A PGWP enables recent graduates to live and work in Canada once their education is completed. According to the IRCC, students of Canadian universities are more suited to assimilate in the country and become productive residents. With this permit, recent graduates from Canadian institutions can live and work in Canada for up to 3 years.

The PGWP is an interim step to permanent residency. The work experience acquired through this permit will enable you to become a permanent resident of Canada. As soon as you submit the application for a PGWP, you can work full time.

Before approving your application, your profile will be assessed on the basis of:

● Canadian Language Benchmark

● Educational Qualification

● Study Period

● Job Category
